Kung-Chung Liu


 

Kung-Chung LiuBorn in Taipei, Taiwan, Prof. Kung-Chung Liu first studied law at National Taiwan University, where he received his Bachelor of Law (1983) and Master of Law (1985) degrees. After two years of obligatory military service (1985-1987), he studied law at the University of Munich under Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Gerhard Schricker, who is also Director of Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law, with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) (1987-1991). He graduated with a Doctor of Law in 1991.

In 1992, Prof. Liu became an Assistant Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Sciences and Philosophy (Jurisprudence Division), Academia Sinica. In 1996, he became an Associate Research Fellow. Since 2002, Prof. Liu has been a Research Fellow. From December 2003 to April 2004 Professor Liu was invited by the AP Academy Singapore and Law School, National University of Singapore to act as Visiting Senior Research fellow and Visiting Associate Professor, where he taught Comparative Communication Law. Professor Liu is currently also a conjunct Professor of Law at the Graduate Institute of Industrial Economy, National Central University and Graduate Institute of Law, Shih Hsin University. Professor Liu has been a Consultant for the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research since 1993.

Professor Liu’s teaching and research interests are intellectual property law, antitrust and unfair competition law, telecommunication law. Professor Liu has edited four monographs in Chinese:

  1. Interpretation of the Constitution in Theory and Practice (with Chien-Liang Lee, 1998)
  2.  Regulatory Reform (in Chinese, with Jun-Ji Shih, 2001) 
  3. Interpretation of the Constitution in Theory and Practice (with Shin-Min Chen, 2002)

   In addition, Professor Liu co-edited three monographs in English with Christopher Heath:

  1. The Protection of Well-Known Marks in Asia, Kluwer International Law, 2000
  2.  Legal Rules of Technology Transfer in Asia, Kluwer International Law, 2002
