Language Proficiency Requirement
English proficiency certificate required:
  • TOEFL score of 550pbt / 79ibt. / IELTS score of 6.0/TOEIC score of 785
Exception conditions for English proficiency certificate:
  • Not required for applicants from English speaking countries.
  • Can be waived for applicants who have obtained bachelor or master degrees from English speaking countries.
  • Could be replaced by an official letter issued by school which specifies that all lectures were entirely conducted in English.

Application documents
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in biology, computer science, statistics or other related areas. (Must have the ORIGINAL copy of graduation certificate by registration, if the graduation certificate is not in English, the English translation is required)
  • Degrees' official full transcript of records, including explanation of grading system. (If the transcript is not in English, the English translation is required)
  • Passport (if applicable)
  • Taiwan Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) (if applicable)
Document required by program
  • GRE score from the general exam. However, an applicant may submit one of the following materials in place of a GRE general test score:
    • Any evidence of research ability such as papers published in international conferences or journals.
    • Satisfactory performance in any course or project work related to the design of algorithms or probability such as discrete mathematics, algorithms, computational complexity, data structure, probability, computer architecture, compiler, and computer programming.
  • Language proficiency certificate (please refer to the "Language proficiency")
  • Official transcripts from academic institutions attended after senior high school
  • Basic Programming skills
  • Recommendation letter x 3
  • Statement of purpose that includes a research plan (Make sure to enclose Self-evaluation form on the last page of your Statement of Purpose then upload the file)
  • All the documents stated above are REQUIRED, incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

  • IMPORTANT: The school you choose will affect whom you can ask to be your advisor and your graduation requirements.
  • Interview appointments will be sent via email individually in mid-March upon the Committee's call. Domestic students are required to come to the Institute of Statistical Science, Academia Sinica for a face-to-face interview. International students are required to attend an online interview.
  • For students with admission offers, note that the document attestation procedures are different for students who get the highest degree from the People's Republic of China (Mainland China) and those with the highest degree obtained from foreign universities.
